Its basically one of the best RTS's ever made until you encounter the Zerg Rush... most.... frustrating...."tactic"....ever.
But yea, I'm definitely buying SC2.
And the title of "Worst Game Ever" definitely goes to the Halo series. Seriously, it's like Unreal Tournament... but worse... and more over hyped....ZOMG MICROSOFT!!!!

Seems like you guys prefer balance and competition over everything else. I, on the otherhand, play for fun or technological prowess. I just love watching my Avatar stabbing others and flinging their bodies away. If I put balance over every other aspect of a game, there would be a lot of games I wouldn't be playing or have played (*cough* Guild Wars *cough*).

First of all, yes, I did play StarCraft multiplayer on Battle.net, which is why I consider it terrible.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zergling_rush
Explain to me how selecting dozens of units beyond the actual limit is not cheating. It reduces the multiplayer to simply mindless idiocy of following a routine of building up the exact required structures and units, and activating a 3rd party program to send them all to the enemy base. This is a form of cookie-cutter gaming that I find disgusting, utterly lacking in originality.
It is, granted, not an unbeatable tactic, but most of the players who use it appear to cheat, because I have, many times, witnessed all of their combat units (not always Zerglings; I once saw well over 100 Marines all start moving at once from a teammate, and have also seen it done with Protoss, although Zerglings + Hydralisks seems to work best) move simultaneously. It is the fact that they are cheating that angers me, and that the game does nothing to prevent this.
It is my hope that StarCraft 2 will incorporate a program to detect these 3rd party programs and use appropriate preventative measures.
StarCraft has, granted, been very successful in sales. It is widely popular, similar to games like Halo 3, World of Warcraft, etc. Perhaps I am merely an elitist; I mostly stick to high-quality products.

It's not hard to bind groups of units with the ctrl key than mash 1-9 while clicking on the same spot.

Zahr is probably talking about the multi-command hack. Half of the StarCraft players in Computer Club at my school use it. Some of the others don't because they're unaware of it.

Yeah, but there's hacks out there that act similar to a mass attack button. Sure, they're binded 1-9, but more often than not it's a mass attack hack.
I've seen my friends do it; it's way more effective than binding.

Not going to comment on what I think about people who are losing to this repeatedly.
Either way, it's somewhat unfair to comment about the quality of a game when you're considering it under a 3rd party program. I'd put it akin to judging GW PvP in RA, since you're not seeing that kind of thing in higher competitive play.

DoW is a lot more visually appealing and is definitely fun in that aspect. If you're not playing competitively, and entirely for fun, balance is less important.

I'll vouch for DoW, tis fun to play and the customization of colours is nice too.
I recently "acquired" starcraft, and although it's graphics are a little lacking (what do you expect, made so long ago) I'll agree that based on the sheer competiton in korea and it's popularity, it's definately a game to be good at. I will probably pick up SC2.
Friends have also told me that Generals is quite fun, any comments?

Starcraft is played competitively 10 years after it first came out.
That should say something regarding the quality of the gameplay as well as the balance of the opposing factions.
The only other games I can think of with that type of longevity are FF7 and Counterstrike.

The entire population of Korea says you're wrong. As well as probably another 10 million across the world.

Your post is so full of bullshit it is inconceivable.
Congratulations on a mass generalization.
You should watch Star TV's report on the recent SC tournament. Those two kids have more gaming talent than the whole posting population of this forum.

I think the fact that it's still massively popular to this day and age points to its quality - among other things, of course.

GG. I'm going to wander the BioWare forums for a while to avoid your idiocy.

Korea is the only place still holding any sort of special grand tournaments for SC of any note, and the game is akin to religion there.

So you're essentially the equivalent of an RA player commenting on the quality of GvG.
Care to give any reasoning on why one of the most balanced games ever, with some of the most tactical depth, is 'the worst RTS'?
